Mimicking Birds

If you haven’t heard already, northwest curmudgeon from Modest Mouse fame Isaac Brock has started his own label called Glacial Pace. So far the roster includes his own band, college folk favorite Mason Jennings, Brooklynites Love as Laughter and Portland, Oregon’s very own Mimicking Birds.

While most of the bands have already gained somewhat a large following, Mimicking Birds is a different case. Information on the band is pretty limited and they don’t have any official releases. Nevertheless, the music is oh-so engaging and deserves to be put on your “Best New Music” radar. Beginning as the home recordings of a lad named Nick Lacy; the tunes are quiet, ethereal affairs that share the precious lo-fi feel of Iron and Wine with the dense, often eerie lyricism of Modest Mouse’s The Moon and Antarctica. Some of these songs sound as if they are being transmitted from space or from deep under water. They pull you into their heavy, melancholy mood, wrapping you in like cotton, wool and a bottle of whiskey on an icy winter or a late, cool summer evening.

Below is a track called "The Loop". Check out more over at their Myspace.
